My name is Mike Barnes, I’m the founder, and I’m so happy that you’ve decided to check out our line of plant-based stuff.
Not to get all boring but let me tell you about myself. I’ve always been a pretty active guy and felt like I ate pretty healthy, but as I started getting older, I knew I was due for some sort of diet change. My muscle gain was plateauing, I couldn’t lose those last stubborn pounds, and I new something was missing.
I’ve always been the type to do a bunch of research before making decisions, and all the signs were pointing to a plant-based (vegan) diet as the best way to go, but I was nervous about losing muscle mass and all of the restrictions. Plus, I’m a guy that loves a nice steak every now and then! Did becoming “vegan” mean I could never eat meat again for the rest of my life?
Well, when I first started that’s what I did. I was really strict with my diet. I was all vegan, all of the time. Let me tell you, it didn’t make me feel better. Sure, I felt healthier, but I was so stressed out about eating the “right things,” that I knew I was probably losing the good impact of the plant-based foods because I was adding all this stress into my life. Plus (OMG this is the worst), every time I’d go out to a meal with friends or family, I would have to explain how I had “become a vegan” and what that meant for my life. It felt like telling people that I’m actually an alien from Venus under my skin; that’s how shocked these people would respond!
So I took a deep breath, and thought, “You know, I don’t need to BECOME something. I’m still myself; I’m just trying to eat a more whole food, plant-based diet.”
From then on, I released the stress and released the responsibility of always trying to eat Vegan 100% of the time. If I’m out with friends and there’s a steak on the menu and I want it, then I’m going to order it! At Thanksgiving, I’m going to eat the damn Turkey and stuffing and not stress about it. Then, the other 95% of the time, I’m going to eat a whole-food, plant-based diet. Life has enough stress, no need to add to it when you’re just trying to be healthy!
